Snow!

It snowed a bit in Edinburgh last year and everywhere we went we were told how unusual it was for Edinburgh to get snow. This weekend, we've been hearing the same tune as the always unpredictable Edinburgh weather has brought along several inches of snow--the most the city has seen in 17 years!

There was a small amount of snow when we woke up on Saturday but by Sunday morning there was a substantial accumulation all over the city. We decided to brave the cold temperatures, though, and walked to church for the 9:00am service. The city was so beautiful this morning covered with the fresh blanket of snow and with so few people out that early on a Sunday, it was like our own private winter wonderland. After church, while it continued to snow (some of the biggest flakes I have ever seen) we took a little walk to see more of the city and to marvel at just how beautiful this city really is.

We've got plans to meet up with some friends in town for some mulled wine at the German Market, later today. But, for now we are warm and cozy by this:

Has it started snowing where you are?

  1. This is so lovely. I think I'm rather fond of your view out the front door. If we see snow here we won't see it until mid or late January. Right now its 21c here so no chance of snow.

  2. Everything in the photos looks so beautiful with its snowy covering. Where I live in Pennsylvania we had our first light snow on Thanksgiving morning.

  3. Hi Paul and Bea! Thanks for your comments. I always love to get comments!! Bea, where do you live that it is still so warm? Paul, I think a "White Thanksgiving" sounds charming. Hope you enjoyed it. (By the way, we just visited your site and listened to some of your music--beautiful!)

  4. It looks very beautiful in Deans Village. And I love the berries in Princess Street Gardens. I applaud you for trekking out in the snow with all the hills you have to use. Do they close offices when it snows there like they do in VA? Let me know if you see any snowmen.

  6. Hi Mom (aka anonymous). Good job on posting a comment! Two even. We did see one snowman today. I'm sure there were more but we were out too early and not in the right places for snowmen. We did see some crazy American couple having a snowball fight with each other. Wonder who those two could be....
