Sunrise, Sunset

Today (21 December) is the shortest day of the year. The early darkness has always been noticeable, in every city I've lived in. But no place has it been so noticeable as Scotland.

At 55 degrees North, Edinburgh is much further north than St. Louis (which is 38 degrees North), and all other US citieis for that matter. What that means is some seriously short days come winter time.

The sunrise time today....in Edinburgh: 8:42AM.....in St. Louis: 7:15AM

Outside our flat at 8:12AM today

The sunset time today....in Edinburgh: 3:40PM......in St. Louis: 4:43PM

Outside my office at 4:12PM today

Total length of the day in Edinburgh: 6 hrs 57 min.....in St. Louis 9 hrs 27 min

On the flip side, come 21 June the sun will rise at 4:26AM and set at 10:03PM for over 17.5 hours of daylight (compared with St. Louis which will see just under 15 hours, with a sunrise of 5:37AM and sunset of 8:29PM).
